dear mom, i am safely tucked away in room no.9 of hostel heike in bocas town on the same island as i've been for the past month. i have been doing much painting in exchange for my stay here which, to my surprise, has not only been extremely theraputic but revealing of the fact that i'm awesome at painting. i've been bunny-earing pages in one hundred years of solitude that make me shiver how the words are put together. as i near the last few chapters, i'm folding every other page. this book makes me want to hold still and let the rest of the world do the evolving out of fear that i might be missing something important and pure in the years of my youth. krishnamurti has been urging the same spirit of innocence. i have not noticed much change since i stopped drinking some three weeks ago, except for my early mornings and tranquil evenings. that might be all the shift that i require. it's constantly frustrating how challenging it is to eat well on the island and--i don't know--maybe panama in general. the people seem to have given into fried street food, coca cola, and copious amounts of boney meat. hmm, is this at all related to the reason why we use dollar bills here & the cops parade around like gestapo with four wheelers and combat boots? i find heaven in this vegan brand called bioland that makes puffed amaranth, brown rice (can we say 'luxury'?), whole wheat cookies, and so on. upon reading the small print on the bottom of the back of a bag of soy cookies comfortably reminiscent of nilla wafers, i learned this brand is from costa rica.
thus, i present to you, my decision to move to costa rica next week.
i started typing a description of where i'll be living, but remembered that this is the internet. click here if you care that much. the top reasons why i am excited to move there, besides the next six months of food and shelter taken care of, are as follows:
1. chocolate farm (abundance of my favorite fruit in the world, cacao, could almost count as one on its own)
2. i will actually really be permaculturally educated
3. see the bottom of my last costa rican post.
4. spanish classes!
so themz the haps with this girl. pura vida, mon.
